Liquid Sugar
A downloadable game for Windows
Somewhere on this universe, a completely new form was suddenly born. It's just a floating fistful of sugar, with no clear sense of self, lying on some room in an abandoned laboratory.
After a little stroll in the surroundings, the tiny living mass transforms! Out of nowhere, their body turns slimy, inconsistent and gluey.
Stepping outside, an entirely artificial planet, with a never ending sweet rain. A weird tower can be seen on the inaccessible distance, and a journey to make sense of anything begins!
Liquid Sugar is a personal project of mine, made in a little less than 3 months, meant to somewhat reproduce the short development time of oldass games. The main inspiration is of course the first Dragon Quest, with its minimalistic approach to storytelling, and simple turn based combat focused on only one playable character.
While the first DQ game is known as the father of JRPGs, it's clear that the genre actually took most of its blueprint from the sequel, featuring a more complex world, relatively deeper plot, and a party of characters. It's funny to think how unique the first game in the series ended up being because of that.
And that's the initial idea for this game: Being more of a DQ1 like. Fast, laconic, and sweet. It has my own twist on it though, which means that, in the end, the game turned out to be a lot weirder, different, and inspired by other stuff, even if sometimes inconsciently.
It's not meant to be a long journey by any means. Finished the game myself in 2-4 hours when testing it (In average, i did it like 2 times and a half :p), which may mean maybe 6-10 for the usual player? As a solo dev with only like a week to test the thing, this may end up being not accurate, so i hope someone else finish it haha. Maybe the balancing is not exactly polished as well, it can either feel too easy or too hard, too grindy or just not grindy enough, so please give me some feedback, just in case.
Yeah, that's it. I'm planning to do something else with this game eventually (Provided someone gives a shit lmao), like translating to other languages, and port it to android, maybe other platforms, who knows? Since this was made in 3 months, there wasn't enough time for doing anything anymore.
Also, to make this game in 3 months on my free time, I haven't played a single video game since Jan 25. Don't expect any update soon, because i need to catch up on gaming now lol Unless there's a game breaking bug somewhat...
